Our local farmers markets are a great place to pick up souvenirs, produce, and much more. Our favorite Saturday morning market is at the UNCA campus. (1 point)
Take a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway
Stunning picnic spots and endless views. Some sections are still closed following hurricane Helene, so be sure to check for road closures before you head out. (1 point)
Go chasing waterfalls
Mountains and ample rain - up to 100” annually - mean there are hundreds of waterfalls in WNC that come in just about every shape and size. (1 point per waterfall)
Get out on the trail
Thousands of miles of world-class hiking and biking trails surround Asheville. Be prepared for hills, bring plenty of water, and don’t hesitate to ask for suggestions. (1 point per trail mile)
Grab some souvenirs at a locally owned shop
Small business is part of what makes WNC special. Following Helene, local businesses could use the support now more than ever. (1 point)
Go cryptid hunting
Many a sasquatch has been spotted throughout Appalachia, but you don’t have to find a real one to get the point. (1 point per ‘squatch)
Visit the Biltmore House
The Biltmore house is truly remarkable in its size and grandeur. Make sure to reserve tickets ahead of time and definitely don’t skip the greenhouse. (1 point)
Catch laurels & rhododendrons in full bloom
Spring is pretty magical in our local forests. Depending on elevation, you’re likely to encounter either mountain laurels or rhododendrons in peak bloom. (1 point)
Spot a black bear
Black bears are frequently spotted in and around town this time of year, often looking for food. Don’t worry - they’re not hungry for you - but it’s best to give them space anyway. (1 point)
Have a pint at one of the many breweries
An Asheville trip is hardly complete without sampling some of the world’s finest craft beer. Want to avoid a buzz? No worries, most breweries offer several NA options. (1 point per brewery)
